It is a highly active transition metal/main group metal Lewis acid complexed Grignard reagent with revolutionary significance in modern organic synthesis. In terms of chemical properties, it usually exists in the form of a tetrahydrofuran (THF) solution. Its core activity stems from the bimetallic heterostructure formed by lithium chloride (LiCl) and isopropylmagnesium chloride: The addition of LiCl significantly breaks the associative state of traditional Grignard reagents, by enhancing the positive electronegativity and electrophilicity of the magnesium atom, enabling it to exhibit reaction kinetics rates far exceeding those of ordinary Grignard reagents and excellent low-temperature chemical selectivity. The most significant chemical feature of this reagent is its ability to efficiently undergo magnesium-halogen (Mg-Halogen) exchange reactions. Additionally, it has strong basicity and extremely high artificial water-oxygen sensitivity. Contact with trace amounts of air or moisture will immediately undergo intense hydrolysis and may cause spontaneous combustion. Therefore, it must be sealed and operated and stored under strict anhydrous and airtight conditions, protected by inert gases (argon/nitrogen) and at low temperatures.
