Geranylacetone #CAS3796-70-1
6,10-Dimethyl-5,9-undecadien-2-one has a green and rosy floral odor and fresh-floral, light, but rather penetrating sweet-rosy, slightly green, magnolia-like odor. It blends well in lavender and fruity notes, where it imparts a clean and natural character. It helps to round out floral bouquets. As a typical aliphatic ketone, its carbonyl group exhibits excellent nucleophilic addition activity and can undergo selective addition reduction with hydrogen to form eugenol propyl alcohol, or undergo condensation with Grignard reagents, alkenes, and amine compounds. This is the core site for constructing longer carbon chain terpenoid frameworks. Due to the separation of the double bond and the carbonyl group by a methylene group, it lacks conjugated stability. Therefore, the two double bonds retain the typical properties of isolated alkenes and are highly prone to catalytic hydrogenation saturation, peroxide cyclization, halogen addition, and electrophilic addition reactions. In addition, this substance is relatively sensitive to oxygen in the air and ultraviolet rays. It is prone to self-oxidation, cis-trans isomerization of the double bond, or polymerization under light or heat conditions, and is flammable. When decomposed under high heat, it will release irritating smoke.
Application Of Geranylacetone
(E)-6,10-Dimethylundeca-5,9-dien-2-one is diastereoselective used in preparation of Geranyl Acetone by Carroll reaction of linalool with Acetoacetate. This ketone, which was developed as an intermediate in the synthesis of Nerolidol, has been suggested for use in perfume compositions, particularly in soap perfumes, where its superior stability makes it a very reliable Itorahzer anct sweetener in floral compositions. It is an extremely crucial semi-synthetic fragrance and an advanced terpene intermediate. In the fragrance and flavor industry, due to its distinctive natural green, floral, and complex aromas resembling woody and berry scents, it is widely used in large quantities as a natural equivalent fragrance to be directly formulated into high-end cosmetic fragrances (such as perfumes, soaps, cosmetics) and food flavoring fragrances. In the synthesis industry of carotenoids and vitamins, it is the core cornerstone of the entire industrial chain. It is widely used as key chemical building blocks for fully synthetic vitamin E (α-tocopherol), vitamin K2, and phytosterols, participating in precise chain extension and cyclization reactions through its unique terpene long carbon chains. Moreover, due to its specific insect behavior regulatory activity, it is also being developed and used in large quantities as efficient insect pheromones and attractants for specific pests (such as certain harmful hemipteran insects) in modern new ecological pesticide industries.
