Tetrahexylammonium hydrogensulphate #CAS32503-34-7
It is a typical quasi-ion liquid or phase transfer catalyst composed of large-volume asymmetric tetrahexylammonium cations and hydrogen sulfate anions. The long carbon chain cations exhibit extremely strong hydrophobicity, making them highly soluble in low-polarity organic solvents such as dichloromethane and toluene. The hydrogen sulfate anions endow it with weak acidity in the medium pH range. In terms of chemical activity, it shows extremely high water-oxygen stability in a biphasic system of strong alkaline aqueous solution and organic phase, maintaining its structure without decomposition under high-temperature reflux conditions. It can efficiently promote phase transfer substitution reactions between water-phase inorganic nucleophilic reagents and organic alkylating reagents by virtue of its unique amphiphilicity. Moreover, in extremely strong alkaline or high-voltage environments, the high-valent ammonium ions in its structure may undergo elimination reactions (Hofmann elimination) or undergo anion oxidation in the presence of strong oxidants. When stored separately from strong bases and strong oxidants at room temperature, it can maintain its outstanding catalytic and electrochemical activity for a long time.
Application Of Tetrahexylammonium hydrogensulphate
In the industrial field, it is mainly used as an efficient phase transfer catalyst (PTC), a new type of solvent for fine chemicals, and a special electrochemical additive. In the industrial synthesis of drug intermediates, pesticides, and polymer materials, it exhibits extremely strong lipophilic amphiphilicity, which can significantly accelerate the biphasic heterogeneous reactions (such as alkylation, cyanation, substitution reactions) between aqueous-phase inorganic salts and organic-phase substrates. It not only significantly shortens the reaction cycle, reduces the formation of by-products, but also allows for the use of low-cost inorganic bases or water as solvents in industrial production. Moreover, due to its excellent electrochemical window and high ionic conductivity, this compound is often used as an electrolyte additive or metal surface modifier in battery manufacturing and special electroplating industries to improve the microstructure of the coating or enhance the stability of the electrochemical system; in the purification processes of petrochemicals and fine chemicals, it is also used in the liquid-liquid extraction and separation processes of difficult acidic substances.
