N-Bromosuccinimide #CAS128-08-5

N-bromosuccinimide, white to light yellow crystalline powder, also known as N-bromosuccinimide (abbreviated as NBS), is an important brominating agent in organic synthesis. Its bromination reactions offer advantages such as mild reaction conditions, good selectivity, high yield, and easy product separation. It is widely used in the radical bromination of allyl and benzyl groups; electrophilic bromination of ketones, aromatic compounds, or heterocyclic compounds; addition reactions of alkenes; and as a catalyst and oxidizing agent. It is a commonly used brominating reagent in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

Application of N-Bromosuccinimide

N-Bromosuccinimide is a brominated succinimide used as a chemical reagent in radical substitution and electrophilic addition reactions in organic synthesis. In bromination of olefins; in oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones and of aldehydes to acid bromides.

N-bromosuccinimide, as an important intermediate in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and organic polymer materials, has a wide range of applications and a broad market prospect, playing an irreplaceable role in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and organic polymer materials industries. The traditional application of N-bromosuccinimide reagent in organic reactions is the bromination of allylic hydrogen, benzylic hydrogen, and carbohydrate α-hydrogen. With further research in Chemicalbooks, it has been discovered that NBS also has many applications as a catalyst and oxidant. NBS can be prepared by reacting succinimide with an ice-cooled NaOH solution and an equimolar amount of bromine. It is mainly used in organic synthesis and as an additive in rubber products. It is a special brominating agent for the laboratory preparation of allylic brominated alkenes and also a reagent for identifying primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols.
