Erucamide  #CAS112-84-5

Erucamide is a high-grade fatty acid amide and an important derivative of erucic acid, refined from vegetable oils. It is a waxy, odorless solid, insoluble in water, but has some solubility in organic solvents such as ketones, esters, alcohols, ethers, and benzenes. Due to its long unsaturated C22 chain and polar amine groups in its molecular structure, it possesses excellent surface polarity, a high melting point, and good thermal stability, allowing it to replace other similar additives in the plastics, rubber, printing, and machinery industries. As a processing aid for plastics such as polyethylene and polypropylene, it not only prevents products from sticking and increases lubricity but also enhances the thermoplasticity and heat resistance of plastics. Furthermore, the product is non-toxic, and its use in food packaging materials is permitted in other countries. Adding erucamide to rubber can improve the gloss, tensile strength, and elongation of rubber products, enhance vulcanization acceleration and abrasion resistance, and particularly prevent sun-induced cracking. Adding it to inks can increase the adhesion, scratch resistance, offset printing resistance, and dye solubility of printing inks. In addition, erucamide can also be used as a surface polishing agent for waxed paper, a protective film for metals, and a foam stabilizer for detergents.

Application of Erucamide

It is mainly used as an excellent lubricant for extruded films of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, and polypropylene. Adding approximately 0.1% erucamide to the resin can accelerate the extrusion speed, resulting in a smoother molded product. It effectively prevents film adhesion and facilitates handling. It also imparts antistatic properties to the plastic. This product is also used in metal protective films, as a dispersant for pigments and dyes, as an additive in printing inks, as a fiber oiling agent, as a release agent, and as a rubber compounding agent. Because it is non-toxic, its use in food packaging materials is permitted. Erucamide is a refined erucamide from vegetable oil with low color (90 Pt-Co) and low moisture content (100 mg/kg). Erucamide possesses excellent slip properties and good anti-blocking properties. Adding erucamide and thorough premixing can effectively reduce friction and adhesion between polymers and equipment, and between polymers, significantly improving processing speed and product quality. Because erucamide can continuously migrate after product molding to form a thin film on the product surface, it gives the product excellent slip properties and good anti-blocking properties. The final product's mechanical properties and visual appearance remain largely unchanged. Erucamide exhibits lower volatility and higher thermal stability compared to oleamide.
