Diethylaminosulfur trifluoride, abbreviated as DAST, is an organosulfur compound with the chemical formula Et2NSF3. This liquid is a fluorinating agent used in the synthesis of organofluorine compounds. Diethylaminosulfur trifluoride is colorless, but older samples may appear orange.
Application ofDiethylaminosulfur trifluoride
Diethylaminosulfur Trifluoride is a very useful Nucleophilic fluorinating agent in chemical synthesis. It is also used as a reagent in the preparation of 2-thiazolines from (1,2)-thioam ido-alcohols.
DAST is used as a fluorinating agent in organic synthesis to fluorinate alcohols (ROH) and aldehydes (RCHO) into their corresponding fluorinated hydrocarbons (RF and RCHF2). It reacts with sulfides or sulfoxides to produce the corresponding α-fluorosulfides.It is also used as a catalyst in Friedel-Crafts reactions.
