LITHIUM METASILICATE #CAS10102-24-6
Lithium silicate is a water-soluble silicate. It is an odorless, tasteless, and transparent liquid. It is soluble in water and alkaline solutions, but insoluble in alcohols and organic solvents. Because the radius of lithium ions is much smaller than that of sodium and potassium ions, lithium silicate aqueous solutions possess some unique properties. Like sodium silicate, it reacts chemically with acids to form a silica gel. It is produced by melting lithium carbonate and silicon dioxide at high temperatures and is used to calibrate thermocouples and other thermoelectric components. Lithium silicate aqueous solutions have excellent water resistance, high temperature resistance, and resistance to the impact of wet and dry changes, as well as unique self-drying and non-redissolving properties, making it widely used in corrosion protection, architectural coatings, and advanced adhesives.
Odorless, tasteless, and transparent liquid. Weakly alkaline, with a pH around 11. The relative density and viscosity vary depending on the product model, ranging from 1.16 to 1.19 (25°C). Soluble in water and alkaline solutions, but insoluble in alcohols and organic solvents. Reacts with acids to form a gel. Exhibits self-drying properties; after the water in the solution evaporates, a water-insoluble dry film is formed, exhibiting irreversible water-induced degradation.
Application of LITHIUM METASILICATE
Lithium metasilicate is an inorganic compound that has a high resistance to heat and acid. It is used as an additive to zirconium oxide membranes, which are used in membrane separation processes. It has been shown to have a high transport capacity for water vapor and sodium carbonate. This property makes it suitable for use in the clinical setting where it has been shown to have biological properties and clinical relevance.
