Guanidine carbonate #CAS593-85-1
Guanidine carbonate is a widely used fine organic chemical product, mainly used in the synthesis of flame retardants, flocculants, foaming agents, and sulfonamide drugs. It is also used as a synergist in synthetic detergents and a raw material for high-end cosmetics. The synthesis of guanidine carbonate has been extensively reported in the literature [1-3]. Domestic production of guanidine carbonate primarily involves melting dicyandiamide and ammonium chloride to generate guanidine hydrochloride, followed by the formation of free guanidine under alkali conditions, and then the reaction of guanidine with carbon dioxide to produce guanidine carbonate. This route is prone to generating compounds such as melamine and its dimers (Chemic) during high-temperature melting. The system contains impurities such as albook and trimers, and also contains Cl- and Na+, making complete removal difficult during purification. Even guanidine carbonate with a purity >99% still has an ash content as high as 0.2%, making it difficult to obtain high-purity guanidine carbonate. This paper uses ammonia nitrile as a raw material to synthesize guanidine carbonate in one step by reacting it with carbon dioxide and ammonia, which is the so-called ash-free guanidine carbonate. After purification, high-purity guanidine carbonate is obtained. The reaction equation is as follows: 2NH2CN + CO2 + 2NH3 + H2O → [NH2C(:NH)NH2]2H2CO3.
This substance is prepared by reacting dicyandiamide with ammonium salts to form guanidine salts, which are then neutralized in an alcoholic solution and absorbing carbon dioxide. Its main uses include organic synthesis raw materials, analytical reagents, pH adjusters for amino resins, antioxidants, cement slurry agents, and precipitants for zinc/cadmium/manganese weight determination. Its aqueous solution hydrolyzes above 80°C to produce ammonia and urea. It must be stored in a cool, dry, and sealed place. Safety markings are S26 (Avoid contact with eyes) and S36 (Wear protective clothing). Hazard markings include R22 (Harmful if swallowed) and R36/37/38 (Irritation to eyes/respiratory system/skin).
Application of Guanidine carbonate
Guanidine Carbonate is a strong organic alkali. It is used to adjust the pH of a formulation, organic intermediate, soap and cosmetic products.
Guanidine Carbonate is used in the cytidine triphosphate injection stabilization. It also acts as a powerful and versatile protein denaturants.
As a strong chemical base, guanidine carbonate is used as an intermediary in a variety of applications:
Organic synthesis materials and analytical reagents.
pH adjusting agents for amino resins, antioxidants, resin stabilizer and guanidine soap, also a grout agent, cement additives, surfactants.
In terms of synthetic detergent,it is used as a moisture agent and a synergist.
For Zinc, cadmium, manganese weight measurement, it is used as a precipitating agent, it is also used in the separation of alkali metal magnesium.
Guanidine carbonate salt can be used as a reactant for the synthesis of:
An oxidizer, guanidinium dinitramide (GDN), by reacting with ammonium dinitramide.
Guanidinium cyclopropanecarboxylate by reacting with cyclopropanecarboxylic acid.
