Isobutyryl chloride #CAS79-30-1
Isobutyryl chloride is used in the preparation of fully isobutyramide terminated hyperbranched polyethylenimines. It plays an important role in the separation and identification of shikonin and its ester derivatives in the root epidermis of Echium italicum L. It acts as an acylating agent for the ketimine derivatives of alfa-amino esters, nucleosides and pyrroles. Further, it is used in the preparation of organic peroxides. In addition to this, it is used as an intermediate for dyes, textile auxiliaries and peroxide compounds.
Isobutyryl chloride is a colorless liquid. Melting point -90℃, boiling point 92℃, relative density 1.0174 (20/4℃), refractive index 1.4079, flash point 1℃. It is soluble in ether, but decomposes in water and alcohol.
Application of Isobutyryl chloride #CAS79-30-1
Isobutyryl chloride is used as an intermediate in organic synthesis and is a raw material for the production of highly efficient photoinitiators PI-906 and PI-907.
It is obtained by reacting isobutyric acid with thionyl chloride: Isobutyric acid is added dropwise to thionyl chloride under stirring, and the reaction immediately releases hydrogen chloride and sulfur dioxide. After the addition is complete, stirring continues, and the temperature is raised to 80℃ and maintained for 0.5 hours. Distillation is performed, collecting the broad fraction, and then distilling again to collect the fraction at 92-92℃ to obtain the final product.
Isobutyryl chloride is a flammable and irritating hazardous chemical. Its vapors are highly irritating to the respiratory tract, eyes, and skin; contact requires the wearing of protective clothing, goggles, and gloves. It must be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated dedicated hazardous materials warehouse in a sealed container, strictly protected from moisture.
